It’s Basic Cooking series again. Today’s recipe is for Cinnamon sugar. This is a very simple recipe used to garnish sweet and savory snacks alike.
It is made from 2 ingredients; granulated sugar and cinnamon. Cinnamon is a very unique spice. I love it.
It is extracted from the inner bark of certain trees from the genus cinnamomum.
Its tastes amazing when sprinkled on some Nigerian snacks like doughnuts, puff puff, buns, and even chin chin.
Cinnamon sugar is available commercially but I love to making things from scratch if I can help it. Besides this is easy to make and less expensive. So why not??😉
Lets get to the kitchen, shall we?
Prep Time: 3 mins Yield: ½ cup
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ½ – 1 Tbsp ground cinnamon.**
** I use 1 Tbsp. You can use more or less. I think a good range would be ½ – 1½ Tbsp. For me, the maximum quantity for Cinnamon in this recipe should be 1½ Tbsp otherwise the Cinnamon flavor will be overpowering. But it really depends on your taste. Feel free to experiment.
- Measure out the ingredients into a clean bowl
- Mix thoroughly until evenly blended.
- Use the desired immediately and store the ret in an airtight container. I stored mine in an old cinnamon spice container.
See? Easy Peasy. So the next time a recipe calls for cinnamon sugar go with confidence. 👍
Note: If you are on a sugar free diet. Substitute the sugar with Erythriol 😉
You can do a lot with this sugar. You can flavor your oatmeal or pap with this too.
