Originally pounded yam was made by boiling yams and pounding it into a smooth stretchy paste. The yum factor for pounded yam veterans is the stretch. That stretch I tell you is not easy to achieve neither is the smoothness. It requires a special technique that I don't have. Lucky for us we discovered the use of a stand mixer to achieve the same effect just like you would make mashed potatoes with a stand mixer, you can do the same for pounded yam

The Invention of yam flour was a way to help making pounded yam easier. This method required boiling some water, then pour in the the yam flour and mix it thickens and cooks thoroughly. Just like the traditional way Amala is made, this method of making yam flour requires some elbow grease and runs the risk if getting lumpy if not done properly.

How to make pounded yam in the microwave.

Let me introduce you the easiest way to make the perfect supple pounded yam. Microwave pounded yam. It's not only easy and super quick to make, It's also Stress free and hands free...,well.... after you have mixed it with the required amount of water.

All you need is yam flour ( I highly recommend this brand), water and a few minutes.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups of yam flour
  • 5 ½ - 6 cups of water

Instructions
 

  • Mix water and yam flour in a microwave safe bowl till smooth and lump free.
  • Cover bowl and transfer to the microwave
  • Microwave on high for 5 mins
  • Stir properly, wrap and serve.
