Sweet Nigerian Buns

Before I ever knew what hot Cross Buns were, these are what come to my mind whenever I heard the song hot Cross Buns.

I used to think it was hot crust buns not hot cross buns I am sure you can relate to the reason why I thought the song referenced these sweet Nigerian Buns ?.

Sweet Nigerian Buns

These sweet Nigerian buns are crusty on the outside and soft and warm on the inside. Naturally I grew up thinking the nursery rhyme 'Hot Cross Buns' was talking about these yummy Nigerian Buns. To be honest I never gave it a thought until adulthood during one Easter, I read the story about how the nursery rhyme came about. That was when I searched for hot cross buns and o my was I surprised that I never knew what the true hot cross buns were lol.

We sure learn everyday and now I know that my beloved Nigerian Buns isn't hot cross buns ?.

Love,

Here are a few products I would recommend for this recipe

1. Pottella deep square 9.5" copper pan: it has a frying basket, a steamer tray plus you get a free cookbook with it.

2. Frying spoon: This one comes in a set of three. Best value

3. Serving platter: This would be the perfect plate to serve these buns on when you invite guests over.

I didn't really get the shape I wanted, but the texture was really crunchy and stretchy anyways.

Question I have is can I simply double each ingredient to make more please?

I tried this recipe and it came out really nice. I have shared this recipe with my sisters.
There was no instruction as to how to use the butter but I melted mine then poured it in the flour.

Yes you are right about the butter, it should be melted. Thank you for bringing the omission to my attention, I will fix it ASAP.

Hope you and your family are staying safe. All the very best and try more recipes while you are home 😉

      Really?
It was the opposite for me. So crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside.
      My children loved it.
One tip for you, make sure you get the measurements right and follow her steps to a T.

        Hello Miracle,

You can melt it in the microwave. If you are not able to do that, you can still use the butter without melting.

          Hi Getaldine.

Buns can stay at room temperature for a day in an air tight container. If you want to keep for up to a week store in the refrigerator. You can also freeze for a month.
