Microwave Amala ( how to make amala in the microwave )

Microwave amala is so easy and stress free. These days I love making my swallow foods in the microwave because it helps me do other things while it's cooking away in the microwave. Talk about multitasking ?

Microwave Amala ( how to make amala in the microwave )

The traditional way amala is made is by boiling some water, pouring the Amala powder into the boiling water and stirring at the same time ( you have to stir vigorously while pouring in the amala flour to prevent lumps. This is where most people fail and get lumpy amala) you continue to cook the amala till it darkens ( see fig A and B below ) in color and its smooth. Then you add some water to the pot, cover the pot and allow the amaka steam for about s minute, then mix it up again. Then serve. If you find making amala chore , then this microwave amala is for. I wasn't joking when I said your amala making skills just turned pro with this microwave amala recipe. Try it out and thank me later. But you really don't have to thank me just share this post with family and friends and you would have made my day.

How to make Amala in the microwave ( Microwave Amala )

Mix the Amala flour and some water in a microwave safe bowl till smooth.

The amount of water needed to mix the powder will depend on how soft you want your amala to be.

Then pop your amala mix into the microwave and microwave it for 5 mins

You can bring it out half way and stir if you want and pop it back in but most times I let it run to complete the 5 mins

See the figure above to see clearly what to expect. When you bring out out halfway it will be a lighter shade and still some raw spots it looks like fig A above. When it is completely cooked, it will be darker like in fig B.

Serve with any Nigerian soup of choice. But find below the typical soups the Yoruba people pair with amala.

  1. Plain Okro and Stew
  1. Palm oil based stew
  1. Efo riro
  1. Efo elegusi
